Promoting Chinese culture, savoring the art of Peking Opera and enriching school life -- On November 26th, the Shenzhen Xiaguang Peking Opera Troupe staged an evening show at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen. Peking Opera, known for its lavishly embroidered costumes and colorful makeup, has evolved into the most representative and most influential stage form in China, best known as the "National Opera."

Promoting Chinese culture, savoring the art of Peking Opera and enriching school life -- On November 26th, the Shenzhen Xiaguang Peking Opera Troupe staged an evening show at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen. Peking Opera, known for its lavishly embroidered costumes and colorful makeup, has evolved into the most representative and most influential stage form in China, best known as the "National Opera."

?? ?? Prior to the show,?members of the Jinhui club, an art appreciation society organized by students of CUHK (SZ),?welcomed the?Peking Opera Troupe with their hand-made folding fans as souvenirs. Prof. Tom Luo,Vice President of CUHK (SZ),?also presented a gift to?the troupe on behalf of the school, expressing the warm feeling towards the Peking opera artists.

?? ?? Beautiful costumes, bright and vibrant tassels-- the brilliant performance of the troupe, which is made up of some national-level artists, awed the spectators by their masterpieces such as?The Wandering Dragon Toys with the Phoenixand?Congratulations of the Golden Monkey. The singing and dancing expressed the depth and richness of Chinese opera culture, as well as the elegant, exquisite, mysterious and luxurious aspects of Chinese opera performances.

The performance is sponsored by the Shenzhen municipal government and organized by the?Shenzhen People’s Art Museum.?Among the 300 spectators who came all the way here to watch the Chinese Peking opera show, there were people from nearby?colleges and local community, as well as some alumni of the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Some foreign friends working and living in Shenzhen also joined the teachers and students of CUHK (SZ) to watch the show.
